The Big Knit

Back to other Community Information

Event Date: 01/03/2017 - 15/04/2017

Information:
During Lent 2017, Smeeth Church plans to conduct The Big Knit.

They will knit 28 patchwork single blankets for a Homeless Hostel in Canterbury and 12 cot blankets for a Church Housing scheme for mothers and babies. That’s 40 patchwork blankets to be knitted (sewn
together and edged) in 40 days. They hope that they will be sponsored for the event.

They need large quantities of wool – any shade and any type. Any amount, no matter how
small, will be useful. They would like this to be left at any of the following addresses:
Cirrus, Canterbury Road, Smeeth
61, Mountbatten Way, Smeeth
or Smeeth Church (which is always open in the daytime)

During Lent they will need as many people as possible to knit 10cm (4 inch) squares and drop
them off at one of the afore mentioned addresses or bring them to the Oak Room in Smeeth. They will need willing people to sew the squares together and blanket stitch (or something similar) the finished
blankets. The total number of squares will be 12,276 so everyone is invited to help.
Please help if you can.
